Thousands of wild mustangs that freely roamed the American plains were imperilled in early 2005. Due to U.S. Federal spending cuts, many of these majestic creatures were slated for death. Many animals over the age of 10 years were placed on the auction block. Several horses were sold for as little as $50.00. Some of these auctioned horses were moved to slaughter houses and processed for meat.
Thankfully, a small group of animals were bought at auction and moved out of the United States to a horse training farm in Ontario, Canada. Mr. Randy Bird, Canada's own horse whisperer has taken on some of these horses and has demonstrated their trainability and usefulness, contrary to the U.S. governments' opinions used to justify their now commuted death sentences.

By immediately laying claim to hundreds of horses, the automobile manufacturer has definitely saved those animals from the butchers' block. In May, 2005 an outreach campaign was launched online with Take Pride In America to engage the general public to donate to this worthy cause.
